The piece and what is included
Commercially sourced stainless-steel cleaver, engraved in our New Zealand workshop.
Overall length: approximately 302 mm.
Blade length: approximately 180 mm; blade height: approximately 78 mm.
Black handle with three visible rivets.
Matching engraved MDF box: approximately 340 × 125 × 60 mm, closed. Measurements may vary slightly.
Engraving and presentation
The engraving brings the scene into the steel. Any blue and purple tones visible in the actual photograph are heat-created colour from the engraving process.
We make and engrave the matching MDF box in our workshop. The cleaver itself is commercially sourced.
THE STORY IN THE ARTWORK
The quiet. Then the rush of wings.
First, the quiet water. Then the rush of wings, and every sense sharpens. Ducks sweep over the water as a hunter takes aim from the bank, the far trees softened by the morning light. Flight of Steel holds the tension between long waiting and sudden movement, when the world narrows to what is happening right in front of you. A gift for someone who would trade a warm bed for a morning beside the water, and come home already talking about the next one.
